Michael Alexander Jr was 36 years old and lived in Bryans Road. He served on active duty with the DC National Guard. Thursday night that service ended in a crash that took his life in Charles County.

Police say it happened around 10:34 p.m. at Maryland Route 228 and Greenwood Drive in Waldorf. Michael rode a Suzuki motorcycle westbound. A Ford Taurus tried to turn left from the eastbound lanes onto Greenwood Drive. The two vehicles hit hard.

The Ford kept going onto Greenwood Drive. It struck a Toyota Highlander parked in a driveway. Then it crashed into a nearby house. The driver of the Ford got hurt and went to a local hospital.

Maryland State Police think speed may have played a part. They are still looking into what happened. Michael had no chance to react in time.

He leaves behind family and friends who counted on him. Fellow guardsmen knew him as one of their own. His time in uniform meant something real to the people around him.

At 36 he still had years ahead. That future stopped on a dark stretch of road in Waldorf. The crash left more than wrecked cars and a damaged house.

Those who knew him will carry the loss. His service stands as the part of his story that stays. The investigation goes on while people who cared about him try to make sense of the sudden end.
