Richard Pieper left home early that Thursday. The 62-year-old from Paradise was riding his motorcycle along Lincoln Highway. It was still dark out near Gap.
Around 4:56 a.m. his bike met a sedan at Simmontown Road in Salisbury Township. The hit threw him hard. Help came but it was too late.

Lancaster County coroner’s folks got there fast. They pronounced him dead right on the road. No chance to save him.
They took his body to the forensic center. The autopsy showed multiple traumatic injuries. That was the cause.
The ruling came back accidental. Just a bad crash in the early hours. Nothing more to it according to the office.
Lincoln Highway runs east-west through that part of Lancaster County. It sees plenty of traffic even before dawn. The spot near Simmontown Road is in the eastern section.
Pieper lived in Paradise. Friends and family in the area now deal with the sudden loss. The road opened back up after the scene cleared.
