John Burger Waterford New Jersey: Retired cop thrown from three-wheeler after hitting stopped car

John Burger III never made it home that Wednesday night. The 57-year-old from Tabernacle hit a stopped car on his three-wheeled motorcycle and got thrown hard.

It happened around 6:18 p.m. near White Horse Pike and Briarcliff Road in Waterford Township. Police got the call about a bad crash with a motorcyclist down.

John struck a vehicle that had stopped in traffic. He flew off the bike right there on the road.

Crews rushed him to Virtua Voorhees Hospital. Doctors tried everything but he died later that evening.

John spent years as a police officer. He worked in Medford Lakes early on, then served Haddonfield from 2001 to 2019. Folks there remembered him as a solid guy who did the job with honor and care.

His family in Tabernacle now faces empty days. Friends and old partners are left with the shock of how fast it ended.

Police are still looking into what happened. They want anyone who saw something to speak up. John is gone but the people who knew him hold on to the years he put in serving the towns around here.
